Basketball Preview: South Florence Bruins vs. North Myrtle Beach Chiefs
South Florence and the Chiefs are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The South Florence Bruins will head out on the road to take on the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Myrtle Beach took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on South Florence, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, South Florence was able to grind out a solid victory over the Seahawks, taking the game 37-29.
South Florence's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Montgomery, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Montgomery pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Allyson watson, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, North Myrtle Beach came up short against the Red Foxes on Tuesday and fell 60-47.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Faith Farmer, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Washington, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
South Florence now has a winning record of 10-9. As for North Myrtle Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Florence have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Myrtle Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Florence ended up a good deal behind the Chiefs in their previous meeting back in January, losing 49-34. Can South Florence avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
