Basketball Recap: Skyler Orton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Syracuse over Layton

Syracuse lost against Layton back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Syracuse Titans fell just short of the Layton Lancers by a score of 76-73. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Lancers are ranked eighth).

Syracuse's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Skyler Orton, who went 6 of 12 en route to 16 points along with six assists and six boards. That's the most assists Orton has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bradlee Trejo, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists.

Syracuse has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Layton, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Syracuse will be playing in front of their home fans against Weber at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Layton, they will venture away from home to take on Davis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Layton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 contests.
