Baseball Game Preview: St. John Fighting Herald vs. Lordstown Red Devils

St. John is a perfect 5-0 against Lordstown since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Fighting Herald will host the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in St. John's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Lordstown has been banged up by 16 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

St. John had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Perry put an end to it on Tuesday. The Fighting Herald fell 4-1 to the Pirates.

St. John saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Newsome, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. Newsome is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Anthony Severino, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Lordstown's offense. They lost 20-0 to Bristol on Tuesday. The shutout was out of character for the Red Devils seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

Lordstown's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for St. John, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.

St. John took their win against Lordstown in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 30-1 score. Will the Fighting Herald repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
