Softball Game Preview: Brazos Cougars vs. Hempstead Bobcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Brazos Cougars duke it out with Hempstead Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Brazos is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Van Vleck on Tuesday. They lost 7-1 to the Leopards. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Leopards: they've now lost five in a row.

Brazos saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Macha, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Macha is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Hempstead brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They came out on top against Boling by a score of 16-11 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bobcats as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Hempstead's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Brazos, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-14-1.

Brazos suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Hempstead when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Brazos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
