Softball Recap: Central Catholic Finds Playoff Glory Versus Vista Del Lago

Central Catholic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let the Vista del Lago Eagles get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Raiders have won 20 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Stephanie Garcia tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Central Catholic let Carsyn Lomeli and Samantha Nichols run wild. Lomeli went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Nichols went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Lomeli has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ceriah Fitzhugh, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Central Catholic pushed their record up to 25-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Vista del Lago, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.

As of now, neither Central Catholic nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
