Central has gone a perfect 9-0 against Huntingdon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Dragons will take on the Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Central has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They skirted past Hollidaysburg 8-7. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by just one run.
Riley Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hailey Fries, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Steele, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Huntingdon has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 2.38 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came up short against Chestnut Ridge, falling 12-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bearcats have suffered since May 7, 2024.
Huntingdon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Kazmarski, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Alivia Edwards was another, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Huntingdon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Huntingdon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
