Football Recap: Caston Comes Up Short

Caston lost against Pioneer back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Comets took a blow against the Panthers, falling 45-13. The Comets were down 38-7 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Caston still got an impressive performance from Gavin Mollenkopf, who rushed for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Mollenkopf was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Ashton Bowyer helped out on the ground, rushing for 82 yards.

Pioneer had a senior duo take command as Noah Vanmeter rushed for 116 yards and two scores on only nine carries and Micah Rans rushed for 108 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. Those 116 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Vanmeter.

This is the second loss in a row for Caston and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Pioneer, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Caston will face off against rival South Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pioneer is set to square off against their familiar foe North Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
