Basketball Game Preview: Oceanside Mariners vs. Medomak Valley Panthers

Oceanside is 10-0 against Medomak Valley since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Oceanside Mariners will look to defend their home court against the Medomak Valley Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Oceanside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season.

Oceanside is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Mt. Ararat, who was ranked seventh at the time (Oceanside was ranked 12th). Oceanside came up short against Mt. Ararat on Tuesday, falling 73-50.

Despite their loss, Oceanside saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Renee Ripley, who posted seven points and nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Ripley is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. Aubrianna Hoose was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Medomak Valley came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 52-46 victory over the Eagles.

Medomak Valley pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Oceanside, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.

Oceanside strolled past Medomak Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 66-48. Does Oceanside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Medomak Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
