Basketball Preview: University Hawks vs. Capital Prep Trailblazers

University is 1-9 against the Trailblazers since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The University Hawks are on the road again and plays the Capital Prep Trailblazers at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Connecticut (University is ranked 136th, while the Trailblazers are ranked 142nd).

Last Thursday, University was beaten by the Beavers 74-45.

Capital Prep was handed a three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the on Thursday. Capital Prep blew past the 78-47 on the road. That looming 78-47 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Capital Prep yet this season.

Amare Cockfield continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 35 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Javaris Spencer, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

University dropped their record down to 5-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Capital Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

University skirted past the Trailblazers 75-73 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for University since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
