Softball Recap: Gaylord Picks Up 16th Straight Win on the Road

Gaylord waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Traverse City Central Trojans by a score of 7-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Blue Devils also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Nora Bethuy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gaylord got a massive performance out of Kennedy Wangler, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Wangler has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Aubrey Jones was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Gaylord pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Traverse City Central, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gaylord will welcome Dakota at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Traverse City Central, they will take on Kalkaska at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blazers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
