Basketball Game Preview: North Tonawanda Lumberjacks vs. Starpoint Spartans

The North Tonawanda Lumberjacks will face off against the Starpoint Spartans at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with North Tonawanda sitting on nine straight victories and Starpoint on four.

North Tonawanda is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They took down Kenmore West 56-40. The game was the first time the Lumberjacks have beaten the Blue Devils on their court since December 21, 2021.

North Tonawanda's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ella Cashion, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cashion a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakayla Brown, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

North Tonawanda smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Starpoint earned a 48-40 victory over Orchard Park on Thursday.

Starpoint pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for North Tonawanda, their victory bumped their record up to 20-2.

North Tonawanda suffered a grim 66-40 defeat to Starpoint when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can North Tonawanda avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
