Football Recap: Champion Takes a Loss

Champion had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-3 to make it four. They took a blow against the Garfield G-Men, falling 56-22. While losing is never fun, the Golden Flashes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 622nd, while the G-Men are ranked 229th).

As for Garfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Garfield to victory were Colton Miller and Devin Bates. Miller picked up 35 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while Bates rushed for 35 yards and one score. Those 35 receiving yards gave Miller a new career-high.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Champion will face off against rival LaBrae at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Garfield is set to take on their familiar foe Southeast at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
