Basketball Recap: Tyler Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wirt County over Southern

On Tuesday, the Wirt County Tigers lost to the Southern Tornadoes at home by a 57-40 margin. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 100th in West Virginia, while the Tornadoes are ranked 476th in Ohio).

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Smith, who posted eight points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Braylan Dawson, who put up ten points.

Wirt County's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-8. As for Southern, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Wirt County has already played their next contest (against Gilmer County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Southern and Wahama will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
