Softball Recap: Erie-Prophetstown Extends Winning Streak to Five

Erie-Prophetstown had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They put the hurt on the Mendota Trojans with a sharp 12-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-1 last Monday.

Wynn Renkes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Lillian McWilliams was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Alyssah Padia was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Erie-Prophetstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Erie-Prophetstown's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mendota, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Looking ahead, Erie-Prophetstown will square off against Oregon at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st. As for Mendota, they will challenge Riverdale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
