Softball Recap: Garber Takes a Loss

Garber had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-4 to make it five. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clio Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-2 on Friday.

Grace Zwetzig made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. Jae Shooltz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Clio, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

On Clio's side, Addie Taylor made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Taylor has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run. That run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Malin, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Summer Stevens, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Garber will be playing at home against Frankenmuth at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clio, they are taking a road trip to square off against Owosso at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
