Preview: Cocoa Beach Minutemen vs. Eau Gallie Commodores
Cocoa Beach is 0-6 against Eau Gallie since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cocoa Beach Minutemen will be staying on the road to face off against the Eau Gallie Commodores at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Cocoa Beach was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 51-46 to Cocoa. Cocoa Beach has not had much luck with Cocoa recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
The losing side was boosted by Jay Matthews, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Max Louis was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Eau Gallie's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 67-42 loss at the hands of Viera. While losing is never fun, Eau Gallie can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while Viera is ranked 117th).
Cocoa Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Eau Gallie, they bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Cocoa Beach was dealt a bruising 73-20 defeat at the hands of Eau Gallie in their previous meeting back in January of 2021. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cocoa Beach was down 33-11.
