Baseball Recap: Egg Harbor Township Finds Home Field Redemption Against St. Augustine Prep

There's no place like home for Egg Harbor Township, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the St. Augustine Prep Hermits on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Hermits on Monday, they had to take a 4-1 loss.

Jacob Cagna made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Egg Harbor Township is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise. Cagna was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Egg Harbor Township let Chip Clooney and Mike Baxter run wild. Clooney went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Baxter got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Clooney a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Conroy, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Egg Harbor Township was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Egg Harbor Township now has a winning record of 7-6. As for St. Augustine Prep, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3.
