Basketball Recap: Desert Mountain Comes Up Short

If Desert Mountain was feeling good fresh off their 52-24 takedown of Centennial last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Desert Mountain Wolves were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 55-54 to the Mountain Pointe Pride. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pride apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Desert Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicolette Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Seaman, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Desert Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Mountain Pointe found their leader in sophomore Amora Mask, who went 11 of 26 en route to 28 points and seven boards. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for Mask. Kalani Walker was another key player, putting up eight points.

Desert Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Mountain Pointe, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12.

Desert Mountain has already played their next matchup, a 68-43 defeat against Arizona College Prep on the 21st. As for Mountain Pointe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-19 loss against Notre Dame Prep on the 20th.
