Soccer Game Preview: Gilbert vs. Pelion

The Gilbert Indians will venture away from home to take on the Pelion Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gilbert has given up an average of 2.6 goals per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gilbert is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals on Thursday, they were much more limited against South Aiken on Friday. They came up short against the Thoroughbreds, falling 6-1. Things were pretty much settled by the half as Gilbert were already down 3-0.

Their goal came courtesy of Cade Hopp, who's now up to six this season.

Meanwhile, Pelion fought the good fight in their overtime match against Saluda on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Having soared to a lofty four goals in the game before, Pelion couldn't push the score so high this time.

Gilbert has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7-2 record this season. As for Pelion, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.
