 The Laney Buccaneers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hoggard Vikings at 6:30  p.m.  on Friday. The  squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Laney has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Hoggard will arrive with nine straight  victories.
 On Tuesday, Laney came up short against South Brunswick  and fell  6-3.
 Laney got a good showing from  Mason Jones, who   pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit (he also didn't allow any  walks).
 On the hitting side,  Carston Wedemeyer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 2-for-4.  TJ Ziermann was another key contributor,  going 2-for-4 with two  stolen bases.
 Meanwhile, Hoggard faced Ashley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Hoggard came out on top in a nail-biter against Ashley  and snuck past  4-2.
  Logan Ponnett was  excellent,  scoring a  run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of  Josiah Gillespie, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-2.
 Laney's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Hoggard, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
 Laney came up short against Hoggard when the teams last played  back in May of 2023, falling  4-0. Thankfully for Laney,  Tucker Bowyer (who   didn't allow a single  earned run and  only one  hit while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched) won't be suiting up this time.
