Recap: Notre Dame Prep Saints vs. Modesto Christian Crusaders
The Notre Dame Prep Saints entered their tilt with the Modesto Christian Crusaders with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Notre Dame Prep enjoyed a cozy 64-45 victory over Modesto Christian on Monday. Given Notre Dame Prep's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fourth in Arizona, while Modesto Christian is ranked 40th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Notre Dame Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Batson jr. led the charge by scoring 27 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Batson jr. has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Quinet, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Modesto Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Drevon Johnson, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Gavin Sykes was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Notre Dame Prep's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.2 points per game. As for Modesto Christian, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-3.
Notre Dame Prep on the road again on Thursday and play against Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Horizon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday. As for Modesto Christian, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome West at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Wednesday.
