Basketball Recap: Gadsden Comes Up Short

Gadsden lost against Las Cruces back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Gadsden Panthers took a blow against the Las Cruces Bulldawgs, falling 53-16. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Bulldawgs are ranked 14th).

Las Cruces' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sofia Herrera, who posted eight points and seven steals. Herrera is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bethzy Quinones, who went 9 of 21 en route to 18 points.

Gadsden now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Las Cruces, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-7.

Gadsden will challenge Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gadsden is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Las Cruces, they will face off against Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Organ Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
