Baseball Recap: University City Sets Scoring Season-High Against Calexico

University City extended their winning streak to six on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 20-12 in the process. Everything went their way against the Calexico Bulldogs as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The Centurions' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Nolan Nunes and AJ Curry made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Nunes pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Curry struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Nunes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Nunes went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Curry went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. Those two runs gave Nunes a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Antenore, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Parker, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

As for Calexico, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 23-5-1 record. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this contest were averaging 3.28 runs allowed.

On Calexico's side, Randy Baez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases. Ander Garcia was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

As of now, neither University City nor Calexico have any future games scheduled.
