Basketball Game Preview: Wheatmore Warriors vs. Southwestern Randolph Cougars

Wheatmore is 2-8 against Southwestern Randolph since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out to take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Southwestern Randolph took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wheatmore, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Wheatmore made easy work of North Moore and carried off a 68-47 victory. The Warriors pushed the score to 53-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.

Avery Ivey went supernova, shooting 64% from beyond the arc en route to 28 points. Those 28 points gave him a new career-high. Jordan Starkey was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven assists.

Wheatmore was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Moore only posted three.

Meanwhile, Southwestern Randolph unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by Ledford 82-46 on Tuesday.

Wheatmore's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Southwestern Randolph, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Wheatmore took their victory against Southwestern Randolph in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 56-34 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
