Softball Recap: Pioneer Snags Tenth Win in Last 13 Games

Pioneer won the last time they faced North Judson-San Pierre and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Bluejays 4-3.

Lois Layer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hollie Zellers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Pioneer is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for North Judson-San Pierre, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
