Basketball Game Preview: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. Custer County Bobcats

The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds will take on the Custer County Bobcats in a holiday battle at at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Custer County took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Sangre de Cristo, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with five losses in a row dating back to last season, Sangre de Cristo turned things around against Walsenburg on Friday. They strolled past the Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 34-18.

Among those leading the charge was Jaydra Cordova, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Henry, who posted three points and eight assists.

Meanwhile, Custer County ended up a good deal behind Crowley County on Tuesday and lost 47-30.

Custer County dropped their record down to 2-2 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sangre de Cristo, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Sangre de Cristo was able to grind out a solid victory over Custer County in their previous meeting back in February, winning 40-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sangre de Cristo since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
