Basketball Recap: Northeastern's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was fun while it lasted, but Northeastern's undefeated season came to an end after 15 games on Saturday. They were dealt a 65-34 loss at the hands of the Cathedral Fighting Irish. The match marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Karri Gammon and Cami Angi certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Gammon posted ten points, while Angi scored five points.

Caroline Wiggins went supernova for Cathedral, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Wiggins has become a key player for Cathedral: the team is 8-4 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tianna Guy, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points.

Northeastern's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-1. As for Cathedral, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Northeastern will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cambridge City Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Cathedral also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Noblesville at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
