Softball Recap: Rocky Mount Academy's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Rocky Mount Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Pungo Christian Academy Raiders 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Berkeley Miller made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Katie Bulluck was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Martha Calhoun, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rocky Mount Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Rocky Mount Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pungo Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Rocky Mount Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Faith Christian at 6:30 p.m. on May 2. As for Pungo Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 21-10 win against Ridgecroft on the 29th.
