Softball Game Preview: Avery County Vikings vs. Mountain Heritage Cougars

Avery County hasn't had much luck against Mountain Heritage recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Vikings will welcome the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Heritage took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Avery County, who comes in off a win.

Avery County will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Happy Valley on Monday. The Vikings blew past the Warriors 13-1.

Meanwhile, Mountain Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 9-5 to Rosman.

Avery County's win ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9. As for Mountain Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-9.

Avery County suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Mountain Heritage in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
