Basketball Recap: Willcox Piles Up the Points Against Patagonia

Willcox won the last time they faced Patagonia and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Willcox Cowboys blew past the Patagonia Lobos 55-17. The Cowboys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Willcox to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darielys Ruiz, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Ruiz has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriela Galaz, who earned eight points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Willcox smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Patagonia lost, don't look at Emma Lewton. Despite the final result, she had eight points and four steals.

Willcox has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.1 points over those games. As for Patagonia, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

Willcox has already played their next contest, a 53-19 victory against Santa Rita on the 6th. As for Patagonia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 29-21 defeat against Valley Union on the 6th.
