Recap: Shamokin Area Indians vs. Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES
The Shamokin Area Indians managed to keep up with the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Shamokin Area was dealt a 46-13 loss at the hands of Mount Carmel. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shamokin Area in their matchups with Mount Carmel: they've now lost nine in a row.
Mount Carmel's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luke Blessing, who rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Blessing was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Xavier Diaz, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.
Shamokin Area's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Mount Carmel, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Shamokin Area does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mount Carmel will be playing in front of their home fans against Wyalusing Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wyalusing Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Mount Carmel is ranked 142nd).
