Basketball Game Preview: Walton-Verona Bearcats vs. Cooper Jaguars

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Walton-Verona Bearcats duke it out with the Cooper Jaguars at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday... Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Walton-Verona turned things around against Grant County on Tuesday. They blew past the Braves 67-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bearcats have posted since January 13th.

Meanwhile, Cooper waltzed into their game on Thursday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They came out on top against the Camels by a score of 58-47. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Camels are ranked 44th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cooper's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Walton-Verona, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.

Walton-Verona beat Cooper 72-64 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walton-Verona since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
