Recap: Math & Science College Preparatory Sharks vs. Larchmont Charter Timberwolves
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 23 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Math & Science College Preparatory Sharks proved on Friday. They blew past Larchmont Charter, posting a 100-48 victory on the road. Given Math & Science College Preparatory's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Larchmont Charter is ranked 407th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Math & Science College Preparatory to victory were Bryan Ruiz and Sergio Lopez. Ruiz scored 20 points along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds, while Lopez dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 10 assists, and 11 steals. The contest was Lopez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Samuel Castellon, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Larchmont Charter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Oliver Block. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicolas Ojeda, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Math & Science College Preparatory and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Larchmont Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 3-1.
Math & Science College Preparatory will be playing at home against Downtown Magnets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Downtown Magnets focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday. As for Larchmont Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against TREE Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. TREE Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
