Basketball Recap: Valley Takes a Loss

Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-5. They had to suffer through a 71-40 loss at the hands of the Jefferson Academy Jaguars. The Vikings were not able to make up for their loss to the Jaguars from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Maddox Woolverton, who posted 19 points and three steals, and Caleb Dudley, who had seven points and five boards. With that strong performance, Woolverton is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game.

As for Jefferson Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Jefferson Academy to victory were Jimeto Orji and Dawson Smith. Orji went 8-for-15 en route to 28 points and six rebounds, while Smith earned 16 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Smith also posted two blocks, marking his first of the season. Seth Lane was another key player, putting up five points along with five boards and four steals.

Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 82-46 loss against Frontier Academy on the 16th. Jefferson Academy and Skyview will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
