Softball Recap: Sheldon Wins Going Away Against Willamette

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Sheldon brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Willamette Wolverines on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Irish in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won nine in a row.

Soraya Dorsey made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only two earned runs while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braelyn Stone, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kara Pierson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Sheldon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Sheldon's record is now 4-2. As for Willamette, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-3.
