Softball Recap: West Branch Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Poland Seminary, West Branch was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Salem Quakers. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Quakers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Ellie Tucker and Klary McKay made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Tucker didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, McKay tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Tucker has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Tucker went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while McKay went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was McKay's first of the season.

In other batting news, West Branch let Addi Craven and Libbie Davis run wild. Craven went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Davis went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Davis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carly Loper, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

West Branch's record now sits at 10-3. As for Salem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. West Branch is set to take on their familiar foe Minerva at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in the Warriors' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Lions have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Salem will square off against rival Alliance at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
