Jayden Hardy commands the offense for Saints win

Recap: Southern Wayne Saints vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

The Southern Wayne Saints have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They came out on top against Smithfield-Selma by a score of 51-43 on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Southern Wayne also won the last time the pair played back in January.

Southern Wayne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Hardy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Demetrius Elliot, who scored 14 points along with two steals.

Smithfield-Selma lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacob Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Stewart is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Dalvin Richardson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five steals.

Southern Wayne's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14. As for Smithfield-Selma, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Southern Wayne will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Fike at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Fike focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will head out on the road to square off against C.B. Aycock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithfield-Selma is coming into the match with 19 straight defeats on the road, meaning C.B. Aycock will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
