Basketball Recap: Seventy-First Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

If Gray's Creek wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Seventy-First, they should've done a better job of containing Alani-Skye Wilkerson. Everything went the Seventy-First Falcons' way against the Gray's Creek Bears on Tuesday as the Seventy-First Falcons made off with a 56-31 win thanks in part to Wilkerson, who posted seven points along with 13 boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (three).

Jazmine Bynum was another key player, putting up two points and six blocks. Seventy-First is 8-3 when Bynum posts five or more blocks, but 2-3 otherwise.

When it comes to explaining why Gray's Creek lost, don't look at Tatyana Smith. Despite the final result, she put up five points in addition to 12 rebounds and four steals. Smith has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah O'Neill, who had two points and three steals.

Seventy-First has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Gray's Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Seventy-First has already played their next game, a 51-42 victory against Cape Fear on the 31st. As for Gray's Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 43-37 win against Douglas Byrd on the 31st.
