Basketball Recap: West Mecklenburg Comes Up Short

West Mecklenburg extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-8. They had to suffer through a 61-18 loss at the hands of the Clover Blue Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 362nd in North Carolina, while the Blue Eagles are ranked 79th in South Carolina).

As for Clover, their record now sits at 3-4. That looming 61-18 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Julienne Chambliss, who posted eight points in addition to nine steals and six assists. Those nine steals gave Chambliss a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Georgia Smith, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 14 points.

West Mecklenburg will take on Palisades in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Clover, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against York at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
