Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Southeast Spartans vs. Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones

Springfield Southeast hasn't had much luck against Sacred Heart-Griffin recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will face off against the Cyclones at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Springfield Southeast is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Normal University.

T Herrington put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Springfield Southeast: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-10 otherwise. Herrington was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, B Twist made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Toby Basden also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Sacred Heart-Griffin's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Normal University by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Cyclones couldn't push the score so high this time.

Springfield Southeast's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-3.
