Basketball Recap: Legacy Takes a Loss

Legacy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the South Gate Rams, falling 72-50. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2025.

South Gate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drake Murguia led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. Murguia has become a key player for the Rams: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 15 points, but 4-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jaden Toro, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Legacy's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for South Gate, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, Legacy and South Gate will both be playing Huntington Park the next time they take the court. The Tigers will head out to face the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Rams will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
