Softball Recap: Ware Shoals Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

Ware Shoals took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Abbeville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hornets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Panthers on Monday. This was a revenge game for the Hornets: when they faced off against the Panthers back in March, they had to take a 17-7 loss.

Stella Eichhorn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Eichhorn wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Vinson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another was Kaylee Watts, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Ware Shoals is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Abbeville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ware Shoals will challenge Emerald at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Abbeville, they will take on Whitmire at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
