Softball Recap: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Maiden Blue Devils
Newton-Conover extended their losing streak to 14 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They came up short against the Maiden Blue Devils, falling 16-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-5 on Tuesday.
As for Maiden, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
For Maiden's part, Raegan Rembert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rembert has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Savannah Tahsler was excellent, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. That hit was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sydney Sigmon, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.
Newton-Conover does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Maiden, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lincolnton at 6:00 p.m. on the 28th.
