La Porte and New Prairie are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Slicers will be playing at home against the Cougars at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
New Prairie will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: La Porte extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Slicers never let Merrillville get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Slicers, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Addy Bennitt was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shayla Sorg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jersey Worthington, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
La Porte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
New Prairie not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since June 1, 2024 (when they won 16-1). They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over South Bend Adams. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Like La Porte, New Prairie also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Geyer. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. Geyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kiera Strakowksi was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Harmon, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
New Prairie's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for La Porte, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Porte hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like New Prairie struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Porte took their win against New Prairie when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Slicers repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
