Softball Recap: Berks Catholic Triumphs

Berks Catholic posted their closest win since May 6, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Bishop McDevitt Crusaders 4-3.

Giana Mirenda was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-2.

Mirenda wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Bradley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Mady Kieffer also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Berks Catholic lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Berks Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Bishop McDevitt, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Berks Catholic and Bishop McDevitt could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Saints will take on Twin Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (418 vs. 75). Meanwhile, Bishop McDevitt (ranked 438th) will meet Red Land (ranked 136th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
