Baseball Recap: Benton Central Takes a Loss

Benton Central had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it four. They lost 12-4 to the Delphi Community Oracles. The Bison were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Oracles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Benton Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Kawlewski, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kawlewski is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Lucas Snyder was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.

As for Delphi Community, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5. Considering they have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Delphi Community's side, Keygan Elliott made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Elliott was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Delphi Community got a massive performance out of Brett Huffman, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Huffman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Xaine Tessier, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Benton Central will be playing in front of their home fans against North Newton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Delphi Community, they will head out on the road to square off against Tri-Central at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Oracles are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
