Basketball Recap: Wetumpka Comes Up Short

Wetumpka suffered their biggest defeat since January 23, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 70-50 to the Percy Julian Phoenix. The Indians' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Wetumpka lost, don't look at Justin Godwin. Despite the final result, he posted nine points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Godwin is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Tom Suddith was another key player, putting up six points in addition to 11 boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Wetumpka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive games.

Wetumpka's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Percy Julian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Wetumpka has already played their next contest, a 68-64 victory against Marbury on the 24th. As for Percy Julian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-52 loss against Plainview on the 25th.
