Recap: Coldwater Cavaliers vs. Shawnee Indians

The Coldwater Cavaliers are still undefeated this season after their contest against the Shawnee Indians on Friday, but the Shawnee Indians came as close as anyone has to beating them. Coldwater narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Shawnee 48-46. For Coldwater, this counts as revenge for the 78-62 defeat Shawnee walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Despite the loss, Shawnee saw an underclassman step up: Beckett Bertke dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Bertke scored a full 45.7% of Shawnee's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Dominic Lynch, who scored 12 points.

Coldwater pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Shawnee, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.

Coldwater won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ayersville at 7:30 p.m. on December 23rd. Ayersville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 420th, while Coldwater is ranked 39th). Shawnee's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lima Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Lima Central Catholic will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
