Volleyball Game Preview: Newtown Nighthawks vs. Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars

Newtown is a perfect 9-0 against Kolbe-Cathedral since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Nighthawks will face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Newtown will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Newtown had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt New Milford on Monday. The Nighthawks blew past the Green Wave 3-0.

The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-17.

Newtown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Sullivan, who had 13 digs and two assists. That's the most assists Sullivan has posted over his last six matchups. Another player making a difference was Kade Deraney, who had 24 assists and six digs.

Meanwhile, Kolbe-Cathedral lost 3-0 to Joel Barlow on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost eight in a row.

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-15, 25-15.

Kolbe-Cathedral now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Newtown, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Newtown beat Kolbe-Cathedral 3-1 when the teams last played last Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Nighthawks since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
