Basketball Recap: Cylin Tate Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Vandegrift

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Stony Point, Hutto was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Vandegrift Vipers as the Hutto Hippos made off with a 73-53 victory. The score was close at the half, but the Hippos pulled away in the second half with 45 points.

Hutto's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cylin Tate, who went 7 of 11 en route to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Those six assists gave Tate a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malachi Hilby, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 22 points and five boards.

Hutto's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-16. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Vandegrift, they moved to 22-10 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Hutto will venture away from home to challenge Vista Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vista Ridge will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Hutto surely won't give up without a fight. Vandegrift has already played their next game (against Round Rock Westwood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
